Materials I love: a guide to my favourite fabrics When it comes to my creations, the type of fabric I choose is essential. Each material not only affects the aesthetic of the piece but also its functionality, durability and the quality of the printing. Here, I share some of my favorite fabrics and why I choose them for my designs. Canvas: versatility and durability Canvas is one of my top choices for printing. This cotton fabric is known for its strength and durability, making it an ideal option for everyday items like bags and pouches. Its rigid surface allows designs to appear sharp and well-defined, which is crucial when using the linocut technique. Additionally, canvas is easy to care for, making it perfect for those seeking practical and long-lasting fabrics. Poplin: lightness and elegance Another fabric I love to use is poplin. This cotton material is lightweight and soft, making it perfect for garments like blouses or dresses. Its fluid drape and subtle sheen add a touch of elegance to any design. Moreover, poplin is easy to print on, allowing my illustrations and patterns to stand out vibrantly. Surprises in interiors: velvet, silk, and more For the interiors of my pieces, I enjoy surprising and exploring textures that add a special touch. Velvet, with its softness and richness, brings a sense of luxury to any design. On the other hand, silk, with its delicate drape and natural shine, is perfect for creating contrasts that enhance the aesthetics of my work. I also love experimenting with other fantastic fabrics I find, always seeking that unique combination that makes each piece special. Where I buy my fabrics I always purchase my fabrics from Ribes&Casals, where I find a fantastic variety of materials that inspire my creations. Their quality and selection make it easy for me to discover new textures and colors for my work. Back to blog
